Tumikia means to serve in Swahili.
My name is Jered Love. On May 5th, 2009, I will be joining Global Vision International with dozens of other people from across the world to embark on a three-and-a-half month volunteer term in South Africa, Mozambique and Swaziland. During my time there, I will be working closely with other international volunteers alongside the local people of each country to accomplish several key objectives: develop social and educational programs for orphans, create feeding and food donation programs, initiate shelter improvement projects, and teach English and basic education to underprivileged children. These projects and more directly help the local cities and surrounding villages create programs for sustainability.
This blog was created to let you be a part of the journey.
Before the projects begins, I will include in this blog facts and profiles of the countries I will be working in, the status of my fundraising efforts, articles on the current events and issues happening within the countries I will be visiting and various other observations and thoughts.
During the projects in Africa, I plan on updating this blog as regularly as possible with the things that I have done, the things I will be doing, the people I meet, pictures and various other aspects of the project.
I want you to be a part of everything that happens.
I am also going to be traveling around helping in Swaziland in July of 2009. I hope to work on a documentary there and involve the people I am traveling with. Hope to meet you someday thanks for the inspiration.
Hallie
